Des Moines 48 Hour Film Project brings together eclectic mix

The 48 hr film project had its DM screenings Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Fleur. This is where groups of film makers have a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue given to them, and they have to incorporate these into a film genre of their choice.

It is a great night to people watch, and there are a few gems, but it is evidently something only those involved can appreciate.

It may also be that starting 35 minutes late, and being in a crowded theater with nothing but 21 year olds with a need for attention contributes to that. Since it doesn’t appeal to the general fan, and doesn’t advance the art form, I’m not sure what purpose it serves.

“Broken Image”, Yellow Sandwich Studios, Andrew Tatge, clearly had standout cinematography, and music, Thai Luong. “Personal Space Pirates”, Musgrave Co-Prosperity Sphere, Daniel Musgrave, had two of the all too rare charismatic actors.

Most of the films died on screen. Cause of death? No scripts, no thought, no camera work.

  1. Iowa says:

And I am sure it does advance the art form. Maybe not on THIS project, but undoubtedly on the next.
