“The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite.”
— Thomas Jefferson
(1743-1826), US Founding Father, drafted the Declaration of Independence, 3rd US President
[The Wiz of Executive Orders had his State of the Farce speech last night. I’d heard good old Cokie Roberts on liberal taxpayer funded NPR earlier that day say that while, “It doesn’t get the numbers it used to, 10 million people still listen” to the presidents speech.
What she was referring to was that HALF the country used to watch, that was a lot of people. Because back before we let Mexico join the Union, we only had 225 million people, not the 300 million we have today. But anyway, back when we only had 50 States, people paid attention to what the hell their government was doing, now it is such a farce I think people have given up.
Part of the indication of that disconnect is that over half the members of Congress are millionaires. 264 of 535 to be exact. I’m sorry, but when Congress had a big hand in shipping the good jobs overseas, flooding the nation with illegals from an unprotected border, and having a good part of the country languish at $14,500 a year ($7.25 an hour), there is no damn connection between us and our “leaders”. We have a ruling elite.
And while the Republicans can point fingers at O’Bama using all these criminal executive orders to function as a dictator, they will do absolutely nothing to put him back in his Constitutional box. A large part of the reason why, is because Reagan and the Bushes were doing the exact same thing on a smaller scale. The problem is though, you can’t be a “little pregnant”, you either are or you aren’t. They didn’t squawk when a Republican president was doing it, how do they protest now?
That’s the beauty of a two party duopoly, no one is left to be a check and balance. You couple that with a complicit “5th Estate” and an ignorant populace, and you have a recipe for disaster. The only problem though, is that us 1 %’s (those of us who have a clue), are being drug to the bottom along with everyone else. When a ship as big as the U.S. goes down, it takes everyone with it.
That is why I liked the above quote from Tommy J., try as they did to develop an idiot proof Constitution, one that would guarantee us freedom for eternity, we screwed it up. We could not follow a simple 4 page document. As my old friend Dale Cram used to say, “Follow the money”. That pesky, musty, dusty old Constitution got in the way of stealing other peoples money. Whether it was the railroad barons, or the oil companies, or later the farmers, everyone had a use for other peoples money.
The great irony of how the powerful work, is they were able to scream and point their finger at a screwed up unwed mother of 4 and call HER the “welfare queen”. When in reality, the $250 billion we supposedly provide to indigents, is dwarfed by the amounts we subsidize oil companies, farmers and the other leeches in the business world.
In fact, we subsidize the wages they do pay through that $250 billion. No one can live on $7.25 an hour, so we subsidize business and their slave wages though food stamps, subsidized housing and such. They hold sign-up for assistance seminars at Wal-Mart and McDonalds because their employees are destitute. Can you fathom that? People working their butt off have to have welfare? There is something wrong with that.
So, you have a dictator president on the loose, a Congress that is on the take, a SCOTUS that is out to lunch, a complicit media, and an ignorant citizenry. What’s not to like?
