The “crisis” in Iraq. The “crisis” on the border. The “crisis” in our schools. The “crisis” at the VA. Douglas MacArthur had a famous quote about DC always operating in a crisis, “Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear – kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor – with the cry of grave national emergency.”
You can’t open the newspaper in the morning without reading about a new crisis threatening to destroy life as we know it. Why are we always operating in a crisis? Healthcare, climate change, the mid-east, Social Security facing bankruptcy, homelessness, obesity, diabetes, immigration, North Korea, school shootings, unemployment, and a half dozen others I can’t even remember. Why is that? Supposedly we have the best and the brightest leading this nation, why are they always caught off guard?
Washington DC has all these think-tanks guiding each administration. Both Left and Right. Academic’s greatest minds. The best computers weighing every option and scenario. We have more intelligence agencies then you can shake a stick at. NSA, FBI, CIA, DOD, we have more spies than Bayer has aspirin.
Yet everyday we are surprised by something new. The administration never sees anything coming. Hell, how many times has Obama said he just found out about something on the news?
The taxpayer needs a refund. These think-tanks that fill the ranks of the State Department and other agencies of the government need their tax exempt status pulled. All those intelligence agencies need to be defunded and shuttered. What good have they been?
Did they see Benghazi coming? The Ukraine? 911? The Boston Marathon bombing? The invasion of Kuwait? Beirut? The fall of the Shah? What have the intelligence agencies ever been good for? Other then bankrupting us.
Rahm Emanuel did let the cat out of the bag when he said, “You don’t ever want a crisis to go to waste; it’s an opportunity to do important things that you would otherwise avoid.”
All this is irrelevant though as long as we have an American public as dense as they are. If government can continue to piss on us and convince us it’s raining, they will. You actually have to vote them out. If the American public remains stupid, we will remain at risk. We get the leadership we deserve.
