Running for the tall corn!

Good night that’s a great photo! Shot by Thomas DeFeo and published in the Register and Tribune on November 20, 1965. Amish kids running from the authorities, trying to avoid State Education for religious reasons (also academic reasons no doubt). Chasing right behind them were agents of the Iowa Department of Public Instruction. They would catch the kids, beat them, jail them, then force them to sign agreements for ‘voluntary’ state indoctrination. Aren’t Police States great?? You must conform, you must conform, prepare to be absorbed… The irony is that this country was founded on the principle of religious freedom, which we no longer have. Witness bakers and photographers forced to participate in gay marriages.
