“Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear”

“Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear - kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor - with the cry of grave national emergency. Always, there has been some terrible evil at home, or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it by furnishing the exorbitant sums demanded. Yet, in retrospect, these disasters seem never to have happened, seem never to have been quite real.”

— General Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964)

[Saps. That’s what he is saying, we are saps. A government that never sees anything coming, and the only solution they have involves you sacrificing either liberty or money. It just occurred to me though, MacArthur’s claim to fame, WWII, was the ultimate sucker play. It never should have happened. But they needed a crisis to usher in the United Nations. The public wasn’t dumbed down enough yet after WWI and the League of Nations. – Jim Roach]
